About the Role:
This exciting position is based within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic, ideal for a clinical psychologist or neuropsychologist with extensive experience in adult neuropsychological assessment and intervention. You’ll be working closely with consultant neurologists and providing expert assessments and interpretation.
What It Takes:
• Doctorate-level training in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology (or equivalent)
• Registration with the HCPC
• Substantial experience conducting, interpreting, and communicating findings from complex neuropsychological assessments
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an MDT
• Candidates not yet meeting full Band 8b criteria may start at Band 8a, with clear progression opportunities based on performance.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be based at the Bristol Brain Centre and the Rosa Burden Centre, Southmead Hospital, and be part of the Department of Neuropsychology, North Bristol NHS Trust.
The post holder will provide clinical leadership of the neuropsychology input to the Cognitive Disorders Clinic.
The post holder will provide operational leadership in relation to the delivery of neuropsychological care and rehabilitation in-line with relevant guidelines, protocols and the scientific evidence base.
The post holder will take a lead role in the representing neuropsychology at relevant clinical and operational meetings and forums to ensure the quality of the provision within the available resources.
The postholder will take a lead role in the development and support of the neuropsychology team delivering input to the Cognitive Disorders Clinic.
The post holder will contribute to ensuring the highest standards of care possible within the resources available, and contribute to the evaluation of quality and governance as appropriate.
The post holder will receive management and leadership support from senior colleagues.
The postholder will be professionally accountable in the first instance to the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist within the Southmead Team, and managerially accountable to Head of Neuropsychology at North Bristol NHS Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
§ The post holder will provide clinical leadership to the neuropsychology staff within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic, i.e. clinical psychologists / neuropsychologists, assistant psychologists and trainee / student psychologists. To include communicating the service vision and guiding and supporting staff to deliver this vision within available resources.
§ The post holder will provide assessment and treatment of the cognitive, emotional and behavioural consequences of demonstrable or suspected damage or dysfunction affecting the brain.
§ The post holder will provide a specialist neuropsychological perspective in relevant MDTs.
§ The post holder will provide guidance and supervision on the evaluation of outcomes from a neuropsychological perspective.
§ The post holder will facilitate and co-ordinate the efficient use of supervisory and training resources for the neuropsychology staff working within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic.
§ The post holder may facilitate the accommodation of trainees within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic.
§ The post holder will facilitate relevant research within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic, including the provision of support to MSc students completing research projects as part of their studies.
§ The post holder will provide and facilitate relevant teaching to other professionals and trainees within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic as appropriate.
§ The post holder will provide consultation on neuropsychological matters to professional colleagues within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic as appropriate.
§ The post holder will take a lead in ensuring the maintenance of appropriate standards of clinical governance within the neuropsychology aspects of the Cognitive Disorders Clinic.
§ The post holder will provide clinical consultancy, personal support and practice guidance to the psychology staff within the Cognitive Disorders Clinic.
§ The post holder will participate fully in supporting the activities of the clinical neuropsychology department within the trust, including attending relevant meetings.
§ The post holder will support the Head of Service in pursuing the objectives of North Bristol NHS Trust.
§ The post holder is jointly responsible for the security of psychological test materials, computers, office equipment and consumables, and ensuring that other staff members in the area (e.g., Assistant Psychologist) adhere to relevant practice (e.g., keeping test materials secure, locking doors, etc).
§ The post holder is required to keep contemporaneous clinical records consistent with the policies and procedures of North Bristol NHS Trust and relevant legislation.
§ The postholder will act as the first contact for the neuropsychology staff working into the Cognitive Disorders Service.
§ Where appropriate to bring up issues, opportunities and problems associated with the service and contribute to finding and delivering effective solutions to those problems.
§ The post holder will adopt a flexible approach to managing their workload.
§ The post holder will have a high level of computer literacy and IT proficiency.
Person specification
Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology to Masters or Doctoral level as recognised by the British Psychological Society and/or HCPC.
- Registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC
- Eligible for entry on to the BPS Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- Neuropsychology placement experience within the context of Clinical Psychology training, or equivalent
- Experience in assessment of patients with neurological conditions
- Experience in delivering therapeutic interventions to patients with neurological conditions
- Experience of working in an acute healthcare setting
- Experience of working using a consultation model.
