Job overview
We are looking for a Locum Obstetric and Gynaecology Consultant to join our team of Consultants in Women’s Health at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol. Due to recent national appointments, we have created a need for a locum to join our growing team and to support our core business.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team when we are developing and expanding services offering high quality care to our women in all parts of our service.
As the hub for the South West Complex Termination of Pregnancy Network and a direct NHS abortion care provider, experience in abortion care and management would be especially welcome.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will hold CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within 6 months of this. They may have additional experience in other specialist areas to meet the needs of the department.
The postholder will be responsible for the clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absent. The postholder will be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical staff. The postholder will be required to take part in a Clinical Audit Programme.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MRCOG or equivalent
- Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
- CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post.
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD or MS).
Training
Essential criteria
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics equivalent to that required for UK CCT
Desirable criteria
- Experience in routine and complex abortion care, including the provision of surgical abortion to 23+6 weeks and provision of feticide
