Job summary:
The Respiratory department at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) has an exciting opportunity for a clinical fellow to join the Complex Airways Disease team.
The post will provide up to 36 months of dedicated sub-speciality experience in Complex Airways Disease (Severe Asthma) and would be suited to a Respiratory Trainee with an interest in complex airways disease as an out-of-programme research experience during specialist training or as post-CCT experience.
This post will give the successful candidate an excellent opportunity to build on their existing respiratory knowledge and become an integral member of the Academic Airways multidisciplinary team.
The Complex Airways Service at NBT is a designated regional specialist centre and biologic prescribing centre, delivering comprehensive care throughout the North of the South-West of England. NBT has recently secured investment from NHSE to further expand our workforce, enabling the airways team to deliver biologic drugs to patients safely and effectively, improving patient experience and reducing health inequalities.
The successful postholder will work closely with a collaborative and engaged multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, physiologists and clinical psychologists to deliver outstanding services. They will have a close, supportive network around them.

• Supporting the diagnosis and care for patients with Complex airways disease.
• Attendance at MDT meetings
• Undertaking outpatient clinics
• Ad doc advice for inpatients for complex airways disease
• Support MDT to provide rapid access biologics clinic
• Supervised assessment of inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO) & breathing pattern disorders (BPD)
• Actively participate in research, quality improvement and audit relevant to complex airways and the delivery of a regional service. With the opportunity to undertake a PhD

• MBBS or equivalent, and MRCP (or equivalent)
• Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).

• Ideally sub-speciality experience in the management of patients with complex airways disease
• Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
• Previous evidence of airways research
• Experience in service development/ audit project and write up
• Strong leadership experience and values
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Education/Training/Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent
- Maintenance of Full registration with the GMC.
- Advanced Life support (ALS) accreditation
- MRCP (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MSc).
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
- Recent experience of general medical posts.
- Special interest in airways disease or in associated field of airways disease
Desirable criteria
- Post CCT in Respiratory Medicine or ST4 and above or equivalent
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
- Experience in audit project and written up
- Proven teaching ability.
- Competent in history taking and examination skills (eg experience of basic life support and resuscitation skills)
Desirable criteria
- Previous evidence of airways research.
- Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
- Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.
