Job overview
The School aged Immunisation Team are involved in the promotion, planning and high quality safe and efficient delivery of the School aged immunisation programme within Schools and Community settings across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, as directed by NHS England.
The team aims to improve the uptake and safe delivery of a large scale immunisation programme within Education and Community settings contributing towards the public health agenda by improving health outcomes for children and young people.
The Immunisation team has two bases one at Eastgate and one at Pill Clinic but the immunisations are given in Education and Community settings across North Somerset, Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
The role involves the administration of School age immunisations including Flu, HPV, Meningococcal ACWY, Td/IPV and MMR catch ups in both education and community settings.
The post holder is required to have a valid driving licence and have the use of a car for work purposes.

Main duties of the job
- Screen children and young people to ensure that meet the inclusion criteria in the patient Group Direction.
- Ensure maintenance of the cold chain process in line with the Standard operating procedure.
- Compliance with medicine management standards throughout the process including awareness of contraindications of vaccination.
- Ensure safe preparation of vaccine and provide skilled and effective evidenced based nursing care to children and young people safely in line with National and local standards and standard operating procedures.
- Respond to and report clinical emergencies (e.g. anaphylaxis) in line with local and National policy.
- Ensure adverse drug reactions are reported through the MRHA system.
- Assess and use professional judgement to ensure child and young people’s consent is correct and make informed decisions re delivery of vaccines

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse/ Registered Pharmacist/ Registered Paramedic/Registered Physiotherapist / Current NMC/ GPhC/ HCPC registration
- Valid driving licence for the UK & access to a vehicle for work purposes
Desirable criteria
- Immunisation training for school aged children
Experience
Essential criteria
- Awareness of National and local policy and guidance relating to health protection
- Ability to communicate and relate effectively with children, young people and their families, adults and colleagues, using a variety of communication systems
- Ability to prioritise and organise own work load
- Experience working with children and young people
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of the green book
- Experience in immunisation programmes and delivery of immunisations
