An exciting opportunity has arisen at UHBW, who are looking to recruit a full time Band 8b Business Operations Manager to the Adult Audiology service based at St Michael's Hospital. 

We are looking for a motivated, innovative and compassionate Business Operations Manager for our Adult Audiology service, to provide leadership and operational management for our teams based at sites across UHBW and North Bristol Trust. This non-clinical role is an exciting opportunity with defined responsibility for performance, demand and capacity planning, budget management, capital projects, contracts and Service Level Agreement (SLA) management and cost improvement.

The Audiology service comprises of a diverse team of 64 members of staff, including Clinical Scientists, Healthcare Scientists and Hearing Therapists, supported by an Admin and Clerical team. Audiology provides the following services for the adult population of BNSSG: hearing aid services, tinnitus rehabilitation, diagnostic audio vestibular testing, vestibular rehabilitation, and hearing therapy.

In addition to being part of Adult Audiology, the post-holder will be a key member of the Diagnostics and Therapies Divisional Management Team, who will provide the support and development for the successful candidate to flourish. 

We are looking for the successful potholder to be a regular visible presence at our key sites in Bristol (St Michael's Hospital and Southmead Hospital) and Weston (Weston General Hospital) with travel to our satellite sites as required. We are committed to flexible working and would welcome conversations around how we can support working arrangements that work for both the post-holder and the department including options for some home or remote working.

To work with the Clinical Manager for Audiology to lead the Adult Audiology Services across BNSSG.  To ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically effective, patient focussed Audiology services and the achievement of access (diagnostic waiting time and referral to treatment), activity, financial and quality targets. The post holder will provide strategic leadership and direction to the service. The post holder will lead and take responsibility in the following areas: 

  • Lead on co-ordinating and monitoring the demand and capacity of the Adult Audiology service, managing workflows and staffing levels to maximise quality and efficiency of the service. 
  • Operational leadership responsibilities ensuring a fit for purpose, competent, engaged and motivated workforce, monitoring service performance to ensure targets are met 
  • Ensure the services are delivered within a balanced budget, demonstrating strong financial performance management including CIP (Cost Improvement Programme) delivery.
  • Oversee the contract management for Service, including maintenance and equipment contracts, to ensure the smooth running of the service and ongoing efficient use of resources.  
  • Responsibility for developing and maintaining effective relationships across all Divisions, contributing to the smooth delivery patient care pathways within the Trust as well as contributing to patient pathways delivery and development across the Integrated Care System (ICS)

  • Postgraduate (Masters) qualification or equivalent knowledge, training, and experience in Health Service Management or be working towards
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

  • Substantial recent operational management in an NHS setting or other large public sector organisation, including accountability for a significant budget
  • Awareness of national NHS policy, local health community issues, the national performance management framework, and national initiatives for achieving improved performance
  • Knowledge of NHS policy and priorities and the requirements of corporate governance
  • Clear understanding of opportunities for redesigning services and the tools and techniques for assessing the impact of change in service provision including process mapping
  • Proven experience of compiling annual Service Delivery Plans, to include capacity planning and Business Case development
  • Understanding of the issues currently facing primary and secondary care and the related challenges for Audiology Services
  • Experience in the establishment and management of databases
  • Proven experience and expertise in the management of budgets and service level agreements
  • Experience of working in a multi-professional environment and working as part of a multiprofessional team
  • Experience of managing or taking part in programmes of continuous improvement and change management in complex environments
  • Knowledge and understanding of Clinical and Corporate Governance frameworks, legislation, best practice and risk management systems
