Job overview
An exciting opportunity to join the Dermatology team working within Medicine, in the BRI with the opportunity to work at Weston General Hospital. The successful applicant will work with the Dermatology team and be predominantly responsible for providing care for Dermatology patients.
The post holder will be based at the Bristol Dermatology Centre, Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) working alongside a large consultant body and specialist nursing teams.
We are one of the regional training centres for dermatology. We provide a full range of dermatology services for the local population, as well as regional services in paediatric dermatology, phototherapy, psychodermatology, hidradenitis suppurativa, contact dermatitis, and skin lymphoma. We are also a provider of teledermatology services.
Bristol Dermatology Centre is a self-contained facility and includes phototherapy and contact dermatitis suites, a treatment area, skin surgery theatres, and clinical rooms, together with administration and consultant offices.
Part of this role includes attendance at skin cancer MDT’s, Histology review meetings and complex case meetings (Combined Clinic) and review of ward patients.
1.0 WTE 12M Fixed Term Clinical Fellow Locations may vary between, Bristol Royal Infirmary, Dermatology Centre, Weston General Hospital and South Bristol Community Centre.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Fellow post available is detailed below and will be available to start from October 2025.
Outpatient Clinic: The post holder will contribute to consultant led Dermatology clinics.
Clinical Management: The post holder is expected to take a full role in the delivery of the Trust wide agenda for Governance. The Trust believes in an open learning environment with clear risk management strategy that allows innovation and improvement in care whilst placing patient safety at the center of our values. The post holder will take an active part in the department/specialty strategy.
Patient Care: The successful candidate will be expected to comply with all relevant Trust policies relating to administration of patient care.
Management and leadership responsibilities: The post holder is expected to help with the smooth.
Non-clinical training and responsibilities: Day to day clinical responsibilities are seen to be a significant part of the training offered to Clinical fellows, and opportunities are taken for informal clinical teaching as / when appropriate. All doctors are expected to undertake audit and to make a regular contribution to the Departmental academic programme. There is an excellent Trust Education Centre including library facilities. Opportunities exist for participation in clinical research and there are regular clinical trials and research governance meetings. Laboratory experience is available within the department.

Our team of dermatologists includes 13.03 whole time equivalent Consultants plus an Associate Specialist. The Bristol Dermatology Department is a large teaching hospital department providing a full range of dermatological services for our local population as well as a regional service in paediatric dermatology, phototherapy, contact dermatitis, skin lymphoma and inpatients. This is an undergraduate and postgraduate teaching Trust.

- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to Dermatology
- Up to date Knowledge and experience of dermatology
- Strong IT Skills
- Risk Management awareness and able to assess clinical risk
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in dermatology
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complement those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the trust service strategy
Additional and Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, clinical colleagues, support staff and other colleagues
- Good knowledge of, and ability to use spoken and written English
- Ability to present effectively to an audience, using a variety of methods, and to respond to questions and queries
- Ability to develop effective working relationships on and individual basis with all levels of staff both within and across divisions
- Ability to be a flexible team member
Qualitication and Training
Essential criteria
- Professional GMC Registration and appropriate qualifications
- MRCP part 1 and 2
Desirable criteria
- High academic qualifications eg MSc, MD or phD
