This is a full-time (approx. 10 PA) fixed term post for 12 months as a consultant ophthalmologist to set up a high-volume cataract service.
The post holder will work with the friendly enthusiastic general and sub speciality services for Bristol and surrounding areas (circa 1 million) and tertiary referral specialist services for Bristol the wider Southwest region. his role will support the delivery of a high-volume cataract service, with a mix of clinic and theatre sessions that support high patient through-put to the service. The post holder will have clinical sessions at both the Bristol Eye Hospital and South Bristol Community Hospital.

§ The cataract service is split across South Bristol Community Hospital and BEH, with high-volume cataract clinics and lists being developed across both sites.
§ This role will support high-flow clinics and theatres, leading the service at SBCH.
§ This role will support the continued development and improvement of a high-volume cataract service with support from the management team.
§ This role will support the training of Ophthalmic Specialist Trainees.

Qulification & Training

- Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
- Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
- Eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview

- Higher academic qualification e.g. MD, PhD or equivalent
Experience

- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in general ophthalmology and high volume cataract services.
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision

- Evidence of a special interest and expertise that complements those of other consultants in the department and is consistent with the Trust’s service strategy
Clinical Knowledge and Skills

- Up to date knowledge and experience of relevant speciality
- Knowledge of NHS priorities with reference to speciality
- Skills in general ophthalmology and cataract. Able to operate independently covering a comprehensive range of cataract surgical procedures

Clinical Governance and Audit

- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
- Knowledge of the principles of clinical audit and evidence of participation

Research
