Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC) is a modern, well-equipped facility in the heart of historic Bristol.
We are seeking to recruit to this permanent, full-time post, an enthusiastic, self-motivated Clinical Technologist to a Band 5 role within the Radiotherapy Treatment Planning team. The successful candidate will have treatment planning experience and will be responsible for producing IMRT, VMAT and SABR radiotherapy treatment plans. They will also assist in radiotherapy equipment dosimetry and quality control.
Applicants should have a level of technical competence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, hardworking and embrace the Trust values.
Hours of working will need to be flexible and will reflect the needs of the department. Treatment planning staff have the option of working from home, for up to 40% of their contracted hours.

You will be responsible for producing IMRT, VMAT and SABR radiotherapy treatment plans and will also assist in radiotherapy equipment dosimetry and quality control.
Bristol is a large centre with five linear accelerators (including IGRT), delivering IMRT, VMAT and SABR, two dedicated CT scanners, high dose rate brachytherapy, Gamma Knife, RayStation treatment planning system, MOSAIQ oncology information management system and all of the equipment and infrastructure for training that would be expected of a department of this size and complexity.
The successful candidate will work with other clinical technologists and clinical scientists within the radiotherapy physics unit and in collaboration with Clinical Engineers, Radiographers, Clinical Oncologists and Specialist Registrars to enable the provision of safe and effective radiotherapy for our patients.

- To be on, or eligible to join, the Register of Clinical Technologists, or equivalent registration scheme
- Degree in Clinical Technology, Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent

- Experience of Radiotherapy Physics treatment planning, with emphasis on IMRT and VMAT treatment plan production for a range of clinical sites
- • Experience of carrying out quality control checks on linear accelerators and other radiotherapy equipment. Knowledge about the radiation equipment to make safe and reliable measurements in the quality control process
Skills and abilities

- The post holder must be highly dextrous to, for example, position delicate instruments accurately under the radiation beam, or have fine mouse control to delineate organs at risks.
- Good numeracy and logical thinking skills are needed to apply, adapt and critique the class solutions in order to achieve the optimum treatment plan
- The post holder must be able to identify and highlight faults on the complex equipment that they use in their job, so that incorrect data will not jeopardise the patient treatment
- The post holder must be strong enough to move dosimetry equipment weighing up to 12 kg multiple times on each quality control visit

- Good IT skills and knowledge of computing packages for Word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages and databases

- Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a standard of accuracy
- Good attention to detail. The post holder must be capable of prolonged concentration often up to three hours at a time
- The post holder should not be concerned about seeking guidance from others within RPU as appropriate
- The post holder must be flexible with regard to hours of working, including some weekend, out of hours work and some homeworking
