Job overview

Applicants are invited to apply for a one-year fixed term role (with likely extension), as Renal Lead for the South West Maternal Medicine Network. The role would suit an applicant with a CCT in obstetrics with a strong interest in the care of renal patients.

The role attracts 0.25 PAs and commences in November 2025 for 1 year initially. 

We will be reviewing all SWMNN Network lead roles in November 2026, so there will likely be opportunity to continue with this role beyond November 2026.

Main duties of the job

 Demonstrating leadership in renal maternal medicine, including education, care plans.

Liaising with SWMMN obstetric, medical, anaesthetic, midwifery, renal and governance leads about renal patients and care plans.

Attending Nephrology MDT to discuss renal patient care plans as required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CCT (or equivalent)
  • Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
Desirable criteria
  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS).

Training And Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Experience in renal medicine

Further Training, Management, Audit

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
  • Experience in audit project and written up
  • Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues
  • Knowledge of political context within which we operate

Research, Teaching, Publications

Essential criteria
  • Proven teaching ability.
Desirable criteria
  • Proven track record in research.
  • Evidence of relevant publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.

Personal Requirements (eg. Communication Leadership Skills, Flexibility)

Essential criteria
  • Good written communication skills. Evidence of the ability to communicate with patients, colleagues and staff at all levels.
