Job overview

The post is available is a 10 PA post. The department has a flexible policy of job planning.  We currently run a limited evening and Saturday service, with outsourcing of on call at other times
Weston General Hospital is developing into a thriving hospital at the heart of the community. The Consultant Radiologist post is a newly created position which involves the development of safe, high-quality and sustainable emergency and planned care accessible to the local people.

The planned changes mean more people can receive the very best treatment and care faster, with shorter stays in hospital supported by closer working with community-based health and social care teams, providing seamless care to our patients

Main duties of the job

This post is for a General Radiologist to take part in the general workload of the department.  A special interest in MSK, Neuro / Spine, GU or GI would be welcomed. Other subspecialty interests may be accommodated upon discussion with the Clinical Lead (John.O’[email protected]).The Department participates in clinicoradiological meetings / MDT’s for Upper and Lower GI, Gynaecology, Myeloma, Orthopaedics, Rheumatology and Stroke and the successful applicant will have the opportunity to become a core member of MDT/ meeting(s) depending upon their particular expertise and interest.

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Full and Specialist Registration in Clinical Radiology with the General Medical Council (GMC)
  • or eligible for specialist registration within 6 months or interview
  • Or Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview Please note this does not apply to CESR applications
  • FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching or training qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working at or comparable to, the level of a Consultant Clinical Radiologist in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of participation at MDTM’s
  • Subspecialist interest or the willingness to develop subspecialist interest in line with the units needs whilst in post.
  • Experience of working in the NHS

Clinical Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the role of clinical governance in current clinical practice
  • Ability to take on full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Skills in teaching under and post graduate students.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of research techniques in clinical medicine
  • Knowledge of the use of patient databases and IT websites.
  • Evidence of appropriate management training

  • Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies
