Job overview

There really has never been a more exciting time to join us; University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and Weston Area Health NHS Trust have merged together to become one organisation. Our newly merged Trust has a combined workforce of over 13,000 staff, aiming to deliver exceptional local services for local people and specialist services across the South West and beyond. Together, we form one of the largest NHS trusts in the country.

Applications are invited for the full time post of Junior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics, based in the Division of Surgery at the Weston site of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston. The post-holder will work at F2/ST1-3 or equivalent level and duties include managing trauma and elective orthopaedic inpatients, assessing and reviewing emergency trauma admissions and attending theatre sessions and clinics.

The post holder will be encouraged to attend departmental weekly teaching, undertake Continued Professional Development (CPD) activities and will be supported in taking study leave for professional development. A clinical supervisor will be allocated to help support and mentor the post-holder both clinically and with career development. There are lots of opportunities to get involved in audit and quality improvement projects and participation in monthly governance meetings is encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The primary responsibility of the post-holder is to work as part of the T&O team to deliver high quality, safe care to our patients. The role involves managing trauma and elective inpatients, supported by daily middle grade and consultant ward rounds and board rounds, reviewing T&O referrals from GP’s and the emergency department supported by seniors and attending theatre and clinic.
