Job overview

Main duties of the job
The Clinical Nurse Specialist will assist in managing the North Bristol Trust Colorectal Care CNS team across Southmead Hospital.
They will work as an important member of the Cancer Multidisciplinary Team within North Bristol NHS Trust collaborating with a range of health care providers in the local community and across the regional Network. The post holder will provide high-quality, specialist, expert nursing care and support for patients with a cancer diagnosis throughout the care pathway.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, organised, compassionate and reliable. As an effective core team member and clinical role model they will contribute to the provision of the highest standard of personalised care and support to our patients, their families and carer; from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.
The post holder will utilise skills of leadership, clinical expertise, specialist education and management to ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff. The post holder will provide highly complex advice, support and information from the time of referral through to diagnosis and throughout the cancer pathway.
The post holder will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence based personalised care and support (PCS) according to patients changing health care needs, through holistic assessment and in line with the NBT PCS quality strategy.
The CNS is an autonomous practitioner and has the freedom to act to influence patient care and service provision. They will be a patient advocate at multidisciplinary team meetings on their specialist area.

Essential criteria
- Registered nurse on relevant part of the NMC register
- Evidence of Masters level learning/demonstrates willingness to undertake.
- Advanced communication skills course and level 2 or above psychological skills training
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and clinical experience, cancer or palliative care module
- Able to manage and prioritise own workload autonomously. Self-motivated and able to work under own initiative
- Personally resilient and able to manage complexity and work in a changing environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong, professional leadership qualities, assertive and clear about professional accountability and advanced practice
Desirable criteria
- Extensive years CNS experience within colorectal speciality
- Leadership and management experience at band 7
