Job overview

This post offers you a rare opportunity to work in specialist neuropsychological rehabilitation as part of the Community Neurological Rehabilitation Service in Buckinghamshire.  CNRS is a county-wide service providing specialist multidisciplinary rehabilitation for people with neurological diagnoses.  You will join a large, supportive and well-established MDT encompassing Psychology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.  This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an individual passionate about providing evidence based, person centred care as part of a dedicated, fun and friendly team.  We'd welcome any enquires and encourage prospective candidates to get in touch to hear more.  This post would also be considered as a Band 7 preceptorship opportunity for the right candidate.  We look forward to hearing from you!

Main duties of the job

You will have the opportunity to work with people with a variety of neurological conditions, addressing cognitive, behavioural, emotional, vocational, family and relationship needs.  You will also provide consultation and teaching to other health professionals and contribute to service development and evaluation.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist for a minimum of four years with 2 years at a highly specialist level and at least 2 years within the field of clinical neuropsychology
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, in-patient, and residential care settings maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of working within an inter or multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching, training and-or professional and clinical supervision

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
  • Formal post-doctoral training in Clinical Neuropsychology to qualify for Full Practitioner Membership of the British Psychology Society’s Division of Clinical Neuropsychology (or equivalent training/experience).

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration and complex motor skills coordination
  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to patients with neurological disorders and mental health difficulties
  • Post-doctoral level knowledge of neuropsychological practice including – neuroanatomy, neurological disorders, neuropsychological assessment and neuropsychological rehabilitation
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the British Psychological Society (BPS)
Desirable criteria
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups

OTHER

Essential criteria
  • Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations and severely challenging behaviours
  • Ability to identify and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to develop and use complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings
