Job overview

We are seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals with anaesthetic experience to work within our dynamic Theatre team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. (Newly qualified ODPs/ Anaesthetic Nurses will be considered)

We require a Band 5 Operating Department Practitioner or Anaesthetic Nurses. The role would involve working in a variety of specialist areas including emergency Orthopaedics, Urology,  Gynae, General and Obstetrics. There will also be the opportunity to work in other Theatre areas namely Scrub and Recovery.

Applicants must be a registered ODP or have a Post-registration nursing course in anaesthetics.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the delivery of patient care
  • Contribute to quality improvement
  • Develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of yourself and others
  • Promote and deliver best evidence-based practice within your own scope of practice
  • Adhere to all Trust Policies and Procedures
  •  Always respect the patient’s dignity, wishes and beliefs
  • To be a skilled member of the Operating Theatre Anaesthetic Team in a variety of specialities including General Surgery, Gynaecological, Plastics, Trauma and Orthopaedics and Obstetrics.
  • Coordinate the use of supplies and equipment, ensuring that it is used in an  appropriate and safe manner
  •  Take part in all appropriate Safety Checks including WHO Team Brief, Time In and Time Out and all Mandatory Patient checks including Consent, Patient Identity and Operative site and complete all necessary documentation as required
  • Ensure that the anaesthetic equipment is regularly checked and maintained to ensure its safety for use.
  • Assist the Anaesthetic teams throughout the perioperative phase of care
  • Communicate appropriately with all other staff involved in the care of the patient.
  •  Monitor, order receive and check stock items including consumables and equipment.

  • Appropriate Anaesthetic course

  • Relevant post registration experience
  • Teaching and Assessment recognised qualification
  • Recognised advanced communication skills

Experience

  • Experience at a Band 5
  • Previous experience in teaching, coaching, mentoring
  • Recognised advanced specialist training in chosen field (or equivalent experience)
