Job overview
This is a line management position with hands on management and development of the Trust’s Data Warehouse and Datasets.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will directly line manage at least 1 Data Warehouse Engineer. The post holder will plan for, supervise and support the management and continuous development of the Trust’s on-premise, Private cloud and Azure public cloud SQL data warehousing environment. Expertise within the Microsoft data stack is expected. Part of this stack includes but is not limited to SSIS and SSMS.
This role is not just confined to Data Warehouse administration but will be heavily involved in dataset development for use within the organisation and in support of projects outside of the organisation. Knowledge of NHS Commissioning datasets is also expected as that will form part of this role’s core expected deliverables.

Education, Qualifications & Training
Essential criteria
- Evidence of continuous professional development in data engineering, cloud platforms, or leadership
- Industry certifications (e.g. Microsoft Azure Data Engineer, Databricks Certified Data Engineer)
Desirable criteria
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline
- PRINCE2, Agile Project Management or similar qualification
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience managing enterprise-scale SQL Data Warehouse environments
- Proven track record in designing and delivering robust ETL/ELT pipelines using T-SQL, SSIS or similar
- Experience leading, mentoring or line managing data engineering/technical teams
- Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g. Azure Data Factory, Synapse)
Desirable criteria
- Experience writing business cases, budget planning and options appraisals
- Familiarity with NHS datasets or healthcare informatics
- Experience managing third-party data suppliers or vendors
