Job overview

Due to maternity leave we are recruiting a Band 5 nurse for a fixed term contract (1 year).

Come and join our enthusiastic and dynamic nursing team on the Surgical Assessment Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital striving to provide high quality specialist surgical care to our patients.

SAU is a team of registered and unregistered nurses working closely with several Specialist surgical teams to provide acute care to a wide demographic of patients within Buckinghamshire.

As a senior team, we strive to develop and 'grow' our staff.  We actively promote professional development and strive to offer a learning environment where staff feel empowered to enhance their knowledge.

 

 

Main duties of the job

  •   Acts at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct.
  • Supervises the work of the nursing team, ensuring individual programmes of care are formulated accordingly to patient needs and current research/guidelines.
  • Undertakes the assessment of patients including risk assessments e.g Waterlow and falls assessments
  • Ensures planned nursing care is delivered safely and effectively taking into account the views of the patient and their relatives.
  • Ensures plans of care are implemented and updated as appropriate.
  • Advises on the promotion of health and prevention of illness.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN
  • Evidence of further continued professional development
  • Post qualification experience in relevant speciality
  • Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification

Experience

  • Ability to understand the role of a registered nurse
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Awareness of current professional nursing issues
  • Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit/quality
  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
