Job overview

The post holder will be a highly motivated, experienced and empathetic Nurse, Midwife or AHP.  As the Early Pregnancy Loss Bereavement Nurse, you will play an integral part in the service delivery and development in the field of bereavement care across the Emergency Surgical Wards, Accident and Emergency Department, Day Surgery Unit and Early Pregnancy Unit.  You will be responsible for ensuring that support is provided to bereaved women and their families following the planned or unplanned loss of their pregnancy at 16 weeks or less gestation.

 Playing a key role in the facilitation and education of the wider multi-disciplinary teams, you will enable them to support patients experiencing early pregnancy loss, and their families, you will be pivotal in developing and delivering an education programme around early pregnancy loss and bereavement to a variety of health care professionals.

Main duties of the job

·         Maintain communication networks at all appropriate clinical and managerial levels, including liaising with the Band 7 Bereavement Support Midwife, Trust Bereavement Team and Maternity Bereavement Group

·         Ensure staff are competent in dealing with the legal documentation and supporting the parents with arrangements if asked

·         Support and follow up bereaved families in conjunction with the MDT

·         Promote development in clinical practice and delivery of bereavement care

·         Manage resources within agreed budget

·         Ensure a learning environment for students and support on-going development of registered staff

  • Allied Health Professional
  • Teaching Qualification (ENB 998 / MSPP / Practice Assessor / Practice Supervisor)
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
