An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Occupational Therapist to jointly lead the Acute Medical team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and bridge the Trauma and Orthopaedic team. The Medical  team includes you with the other Band 7, two Band 6s, Band 5 and a Band 3 and T&O team, Band 7, Band 6 and Band 4s! 

You will lead with a strategic, passionate and innovative approach! 

The OT teams work closely with the Physios and the innovative Home First team that undertakes discharge home visits with the care agencies using a Discharge to Assess approach. 

Main duties of the job

  • To work clinically assessing acute medical in- patients and providing recommendations regarding their ability to be discharged home or requiring some in-patient rehabilitation and liaising with all the community services available.
  • To support your team to do the same and identify and develop your own interests supported and empowered by the Occupational Therapy manager.
  • To work closely with the multidisciplinary team and lead and develop a most effective model and vision with your dynamic team, supervising and delegating. 
  • To contribute to interdisciplinary team management of long term disability and it’s consequent problems by use of specific clinical skills to treat .
  • To be able to identify own professional limitations and seek professional advice when necessary.
  • To undertake responsibility and leadership for completion and implementation of clinical projects, audit or research.
  • To analyse and interpret clinical and non-clinical information to contribute to an accurate treatment approach.

Essential criteria
  • Awareness of limitations of own professional abilities
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication to ensure liaison with multi disciplinary team, patients and carers to ensure records and reports are accurate, legal and in legible manner (in English)
  • Ability to integrate, participate and contribute as an effective member of a team
  • Ability to self direct towards the attainment of clear goals
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and functions against well reasoned standards
  • Positive response to constructive criticism
  • Ability to plan, manage and organise required tasks within available resources (including time)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Medical experience at Band 6 level
  • Experience in related fields at senior level
  • Experience in student clinical supervision
  • Experience in supervision of junior staff
  • Ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, and reflective practice
  • Participation in audit and research activities
  • Establish and maintain CPD Portfolio
  • Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process following identification of clinical or service need
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in neurology intervention
  • Knowledge and application of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with Health Professions Council
  • Diploma /Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Field work/clinical educators course
Desirable criteria
  • BAOT Membership
  • Membership of professional special interest group
