Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed senior midwife with strong clinical leadership skills. You will be joining a well-established team of Labour Ward Sisters, dedicated to the ongoing promotion of woman centred personalised care in line with ‘Better Births’ and delivering high standards of intrapartum care. 

The role will involve the coordination of the Labour Ward at our Stoke Mandeville site and leadership for a small team of midwives including their appraisals and personal development plans. 

As a member of our team you will be professional, reliable, safe and compassionate to women, babies and their families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team in an environment that is open, supportive and empowering. 

It is essential that you have the required post registration experience for this post and that you possess excellent communication skills, is flexible and enjoy working within a busy, enthusiastic team.

Main duties of the job

• Manage the clinical area of responsibility.
• Assesses the full range of care needs and develops, implements and evaluates programmes of care in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for women and their babies.
• Works autonomously within guidelines and sphere of professional practice.
• Acts as a mentor for new qualified and junior midwives and other staff providing leadership within the practice environment.
• Provides a full range of Health Education and social care advice to women in the hospital setting.
• Promoting commitment to the Trust.

  • Clinical Skills ie perineal suturing, IV Cannulation
  • Awareness and respect for colleagues, patients and relatives cultural, religious and emotional needs and beliefs
  • Demonstrates effective management in the clinical environment
  • Good verbal and written English which can be evidenced at interview or IELTs level 7 (in all elements) or above
  • IT literate on Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills with all members of the team, patients and relatives
Desirable criteria
  • experience acquiring and interpreting patient feedback
  • Masters Degree or Evidence of Level 7
