Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic Band 6 Midwife to join our team within the Maternity Day Assessment Unit (DAU), providing support to high-risk antenatal women. Our unique and multifaceted service will give you the opportunity to be more autonomous and experience a variety of roles. We are a progressive service and endeavour to be forward thinking to maintain local and national standards.

As well as planned and unplanned appointments, DAU provides women with the opportunity to have an outpatient foleys induction which is midwifery lead, support the consultants with ECVs, offer acute scanning service and provide monofer infusions to our symptomatic women. We are delighted to have moved into our new building, offering a more comfortable and aesthetically pleasing environment which is well equipped and spacious.

In DAU and as a maternity service we are committed to meeting the Trust CARE Values and pride ourselves in promoting safe, quality and inclusive care. The successful applicant will be motivated, passionate and dedicated to providing high quality researched based care, dedicated to promoting the well-being of our women, their babies and families. You will work collaboratively within our multidisciplinary team, including maintaining professional links with our maternity triage team, community midwives and sonographers.

Main duties of the job

The maternity Day Assessment Unit is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, with close links to Amersham and Wycombe Hospital. We provide a 7 day a week service throughout the year, which covers 10.5 hours of the day.

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • ENB 997 / MSPP
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Assessor
  • Evidence of Further Study

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a preceptor Midwife
  • Ability to be a mentor to student midwives/nurses/MCA’s
  • Completion of mentor assessor workshops
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively within it

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical skills, in particular Suturing , Cannulation, Supervision of epidural infusion
  • Knowledge of NMC Code of Conduct, Guidelines and Professional Practice
  • Awareness and knowledge of vulnerable adult and child Protection issues
  • Computer literate
  • Knowledge of evidence informed and research based practice
  • Good communicator both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work on own initiative and mange own time
  • Willing to undertake further study
  • Professional appearance and behaviour
  • Ability to write clearly and legibly in English
  • Flexible approach to working hours and practices
