Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable, dynamic, and highly motivated individual to join our busy Ophthalmology Booking Department based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.  The role will be to provide a comprehensive administration, booking and appointment service for all our patients’ appointments within our Ophthalmology teams.  Have good communications skills to be able to deal with all patient queries regarding their appointments.  Be adaptable to be working with the wider team within Ophthalmology.

Main duties of the job

Answering phone calls

Dealing with queries internally and externally

Managing the logging of patient referrals and booking

Dealing with all outcomes of patient’s appointments via hospital system

Managing patient booking lists

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to enable liaison with multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers.
  • Aware of Confidentiality code of practice in relation to patients and staff.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • Good Basic Education
  • GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
Desirable criteria
  • Customer Care Course or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

Desirable criteria
  • Previous NHS or health care experience

SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES

Essential criteria
  • Booking coordinators are required to work using VDU and keyboards and also deal with patients/ other contacts face to face and on the telephone.
  • The Outpatients areas may operate between the hours of 8.30am and 8.00pm Monday to Friday and post holders may be expected to work on an internal rota and be flexible to cover absences.
