Job overview

Come and join our exciting and dynamic Children and Young People’s Therapies Team

Speech and Language Therapist Band 5

Are you looking for your first post to begin your career ?

Are you looking for  a new band 5 experience ?

If so come and join  a supportive and dynamic  Integrated Children and Young People’s Therapies team in Buckinghamshire who are dedicated to move you through your first year competencies and beyond.

We have a strong commitment to supporting our newly qualified band 5 therapists to develop your clinical and professional skills both face to face and via teletherapy in order to achieve your competencies within your first year. We are an unique service in having a Practice Development Therapist who works very closely with team leads and  supports the staff across all therapies.

All staff receive:

  • A comprehensive induction supported by the Practice Development Therapist
  • A 2 year Trust Preceptorship programme to develop professional confidence, skills, values and behaviours to continue on a journey of  life long learning within Bucks
  • Regular clinical supervision, one to one and peer groups focused to newly qualified and band 5s
  • Access to a variety of CPD sessions on specific clinical areas supported by Clinical Leads
  • Clinical and caseload discussions with senior colleagues
  • Coaching, mentoring and access to external courses
  • Attendance at regional and national CEN meetings

Main duties of the job

The post is locality team based in Aylesbury.  As a newly qualified therapist you would be given a mainstream school aged caseload for 3 days of your week, alongside 2 days CPD to develop competencies and shadowing for the first year with the aim to develop interests in different parts of the service. Caseload allocations are caped to allow NQTs the ability to acquire necessary competencies within the first year.

This is a jointly commissioned service that will give you the opportunity to use your innovative and dynamic SLT skills to influence the delivery of high quality, evidence based interventions for children and young people in Buckinghamshire.

We use a wide variety of evidence-based therapy approaches with children. For example, staff are trained to use Attention Autism by Gina Davies, Shape Coding by Susan Ebbels ® (Ebbels 2007), Lego therapy (LeGoff 2004), Active Listening for Active Learning (Maggie Johnson and Carolyn Player) and Word Aware (Stephen Parsons and Anna Brannagan) . Therapy is delivered individually, in groups or flexibly as the child and setting require.

Award winning and evidence based programmes, Speech Link and Infant Language Link, are commissioned to every key stage 1 setting across Buckinghamshire and supports a graduated approach to therapy delivery alongside our school advice sessions and webinars.
