Job overview
We are looking for band 5 Paediatric trained nurses or soon to qualify students to join our enthusiastic and friendly department and become part of our supportive family.
If you are a Registered Children’s Nurse or a student soon to qualify with a positive attitude to ensuring children receive the best possible care, we'd love to hear from you.
Paediatric Nursing is varied and extremely rewarding. Working with us will provide both newly qualified and experienced nurses with a broad range of skills and experiences which will help in your career progression. Buckinghamshire NHS trust
We provide all new starters with a robust induction programme and we have Practice Development Nurses on hand providing 1 -1 teaching and support in identifying your professional development needs.
Main duties of the job
- Staff nurses in the paediatric unit have the opportunity to care for children aged 0-16 working alongside the MDT.
- You are responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation or evaluation of programmes of care.
- When deemed competent, is designated to take charge of the ward/area and provide an effective professional and managerial leadership focus in the absence of the ward manager.
- Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care, maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust policies.
- Supervises qualified and unqualified staff.
- Teaches qualified and unqualified staff including pre registration and post registration Responsibilities to deliver Patient Care.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of evidence based practice
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to produce clear legible written reports in English
- Knowledge of current issues in Children’s Nursing / Urgent Care
- Accurate basic arithmetic skills for purposes of calculating drugs and fluids.
- Ability to communicate clearly & effectively in spoken English
Desirable criteria
- Ability to supervise others
- Competency in IV drug administration.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working within a team without supervision.
- Experience of resolving conflict and disputes, in a non-confrontational manner
Desirable criteria
- Experience in emergency care
- Experience teaching colleagues / parents
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Registered Children’s Nurse or Registered Adult Nurse
- Evidence of continuous professional development

- MSPP or equivalent
- Level 2 Child Protection
- APLS
