Job overview

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust has a 6 Month Fixed Term Contract post  available within their Plastic Surgery Department at Trust LED Specialty Registrar level.  These posts are strictly available from 04.02.2026 until 04.08.2026 2026. There maybe possibility for an extension beyond this date. 

Please note all applicants are required to have a Full GMC Registration with Licence to Practice in the UK. 

We anticipate these to be popular posts and this advert my close early depending on the number of applicants, so early applicant submissions are encouraged. 

Main duties of the job

We would aim to build an ideal level of supervision and training around the successful candidates depending on seniority and experience.  The candidate could pass through a variety of useful specialties heading towards subsequent CCT application.  The post would also include responsibilities aimed at management experience including rota coordination, quality improvement projects and teaching.

This is a popular and friendly training unit with specialty trainees from the Oxford and London deaneries. The successful candidate would have options of moving through attachments in a variety of subspecialty fields within the department.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Successful Applicant would have supervision responsibilities of Junior Trainees at Core and Foundation Levels. 

Assessment of patients referred as emergencies and treatment planning in consultation with the responsible consultant.

Elective and emergency operating and assisting, with independent operating appropriate to level of experience.

Outpatient clinics.

Administrative and other clinical duties as required for the post.

Active participation and contribution to audit, research and continuous professional development.

Active participation and contribution to teaching and learning. 

Teaching presentations by trainees and consultants, visiting speakers, research updates, morbidity and mortality reviews, combined (plastic and orthopaedic surgery) meetings.

Sometimes there are emergencies to be seen and treated, including operating sessions.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • MBBS or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • 4 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) ideally 2 of which need to be in plastic surgery
  • Ideally had some time working at plastic surgery registrar level
  • Ability to work comfortably at the level of a specialty trainee year 3 including logbook evidence

Other Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC Registration with Licence to practice in the UK
  • Ability to travel between multiple hospital sites
  • Minimum of two years direct paid NHS experience in Plastic Surgery.
