Staff Nurse - Respiratory Ward
Band 5
We are a family of 6,000 highly-trained and qualified doctors, nurses, midwives, health visitors, therapists, healthcare scientists and support staff.
We care for a population of 500,000 in our 3 hospitals, local bases and across the community.
Our stroke service is one of the best in the region. We are a regional centre for burns and plastics, and we are the world-famous National Spinal Injuries Centre.
We are Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
The Respiratory Unit encompasses two respiratory wards, and works closely with the Buckinghamshire Integrated Respiratory Service. We receive patients from the Assessment Observation Unit, as well as the Emergency Department.
We also receive patients from other areas from within the hospital who require our specialist respiratory knowledge such as the Intensive Therapy Unit. The patients are assessed, stabilised and either transferred appropriately or discharged.
It is a busy environment providing great learning opportunities especially in acute respiratory care. The nursing team works closely with their colleagues from other disciplines to promote a smooth and efficient cohesive service. Ideal candidates will have initiative, a willingness to learn and an ability to prioritise.
It is an excellent ward to develop your acute care skills, such as Non-invasive ventilation and tracheostomy care. Due to the nature of the specialty you will also gain some palliative care experience and knowledge.
Whilst experience within an acute care setting is preferred, those newly Registered will receive good support to gain the right skills. Good communication is essential in this environment where patient care is paramount.
