Are you a passionate and experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking for an exciting opportunity to make a real difference? We are thrilled to offer a unique role that spans two specialist pathways, giving you the chance to develop your expertise and leadership across diverse settings in Buckinghamshire.
We currently have vacancies across the following pathways:
- Clinical Lead in Selective Mutism (SM) (0.4 WTE)
- Clinical Lead in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (0.6 WTE)
As the Clinical Lead in SM and ASD, you will play a pivotal role within the leadership team, helping to shape and develop services for children and young people (CYP) with SM, Reactive Mutism and/or ASD. You will work collaboratively with external stakeholders to foster a coordinated, local approach to supporting needs. You will also be responsible for a caseload of school aged CYP, with Educational and Health Care Plans.
We are looking for Speech and Language Therapist/s to join our team in these Highly Specialist roles. We are seeking those with a desire to step into a leadership role, with knowledge & experience of working with CYP with communication needs including SM and/or ASD.

Main duties of the job
As the Clinical Lead in Selective Mutism and Clinical Lead in ASD, you will play a pivotal role within the leadership team, helping to shape and develop services for children and young people with Selective Mutism, Reactive Mutism and/or ASD across Buckinghamshire. You will work collaboratively with external stakeholders, including SEND services, specialist teachers, voluntary organisations, and charity sectors, to foster a coordinated, local approach to supporting needs. You will also be responsible for a caseload of school aged children and young people, with Educational and Health Care Plans.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Recognised Speech & Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent
- Health Professions Council License to Practice
- Evidence of postgraduate training within the client group
Desirable criteria
- Formal post graduate training/qualification in dysphagia
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Minimum of five years of indepth experience in a specialist clinical area, particularly early years complex need and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Experience carrying out assessments and delivering therapy within a multidisciplinary context
- Evidence of a wide range of evidence-based interventions relevant for specialist clinical areas in complex needs and/or autism spectrum disorder e.g. GLP / AAC
Desirable criteria
- Experience delivering training to parents and professionals, including the use of video coaching.
- Experience in working effectively in a multidisciplinary setting
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- High level of specialist knowledge and skills or clinical area, developed through experience and ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Be able to listen attentively and provide effective counselling to clients, carers and families.
- Working knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice
- Well-established understanding of national policies and procedures relevant to children and young people with complex communication needs including Selective Mutism and/or autism
- Demonstrate empathy and build strong relationships with clients, families and colleagues.
- Be able to communicate effectively, particularly where barriers to understanding exist
- Highly developed negotiation, problem-solving and motivational skills
- Strong analytical and reflective practice abilities
- Excellent verbal and written presentation skills
- Evidence of organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise both clinical and non-clinical workloads effectively
- Evidence of mentoring, supporting and supervising less experienced speech and language therapist, assistants and students.
Desirable criteria
- Working knowledge and experience of service improvement e.g. quality improvement
- Experience of data collection and audit
SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES
Essential criteria
- Ability to travel across the county to meet service needs
