Job overview
The National Spinal Injuries Centre, Stoke Mandeville is dedicated to the treatment of individuals with spinal cord injury. Physiotherapists are part of the enthusiastic and well-motivated inter-disciplinary team involved in all aspects of lifelong management from the acute stage through rehabilitation and post discharge.
An opportunity has arisen for a physiotherapist with interest and experience in neurological physiotherapy seeking to develop their skills in spinal cord injury physiotherapy rehabilitation to join the team at the NSIC. They will be responsible for their own caseload of patients and provide liaison and communication with other members of the interdisciplinary team within and external to the NSIC supporting progression of patients through rehabilitation. They will be active keyworkers in the NSIC and support the goals of both the physiotherapy service and the NSIC.
Weekend and on call working are requirements of this post.
Main duties of the job
- To perform assessment and treatment for Spinal Cord Injury patients with complex needs, and to provide advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.
- To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To participate in continuing professional and service development, and contribute to organisational objectives.
- To participate in weekend and on call working

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- HCPC Registration
- Physiotherapy Degree
- Completion of questions within person specification
- Attendance at post graduate courses in related fields
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, and reflective practice
- A current and well-presented CPD Portfolio
- Evidence of ability to work and interact effectively within an interdisciplinary team
- Knowledge and application of evidence based practice and clinical reasoning
- Demonstration of having initiated change of practice or process
Desirable criteria
- Particpation in QI and audit projects
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 24 months relevant post registration working experience as physiotherapist
- Experience of a broad rotational scheme
- Experience of working with patients with neurological and/or respiratory presentations
Desirable criteria
- Experience in student clinical supervision
- Experience of working with patients with SCI in acute and /or rehabilitation settings
- Experience in supervision of junior staff
- Experience of working in the NHS
Special Circumstances
Essential criteria
- Ability to participate in on call / emergency working rota
- Evidence of fitness and endurance to work in the physical environment of the clinical area
- Self motivated
Desirable criteria
- Full Driving Licence
