Independent Operating and clinic arrangements may be worked flexibly to fit in with spare operating capacity.
No out-of-hours on-call commitments would be required. Extra sessions may be undertaken by mutual agreement.
Main duties of the job
Over the last 20 years spinal surgery has become an important part of the treatment of spinal cord injured patients at the National Spinal Cord Injuries Centre where the overall management of acute cases is undertaken by specialised spinal rehabilitation consultants. Spinal surgery in these cases is highly complex and often performed as dual consultant. Late reconstructive surgery following trauma, paralytic scoliosis and charcot spine are some examples. NSIC is the only centre that treats children and are World leaders in the management of spinal cord injury in this age range.
The Fellow will be involved in the daytime on-call spinal rota with back-up of a Consultant. There is no formal out-of-hours commitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide high quality Medical and Surgical Care to Orthopaedics Spinal Patients under Treatment.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified orthopaedic surgeons or neurosurgeons pursuing a career in spinal surgery. The post is ideally suited to an individual who has CCT and wishes to enhance experience and develop skills prior to taking up a consultant appointment.

- MBBS or Equivalent
- Registration with the GMC & Licence to practice in the UK
- FRCS - T&O or Equivalent
EXPERIENCE

- General training in T & O to year 5-6 of specialist training program or equivalent
- Able to undertake general spinal surgery with confidence.
- Ability to make decisions at Senior Trainee level or junior consultant level
- Experience within the NHS and UK Setting, specifically T&O
COMMUNICATION & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

- Able to communicate effectively in written English
- Able to discuss treatment options with patients and carers in a way they understand
