We are looking for  a dynamic, innovative consultant to join our team. If you are interested in developing your role in Emergency Medicine and are looking for a new challenge in a department that has vision, we would like to hear from you. Emergency Department staff across the country have endured the toughest times the NHS has seen, and our team has continued to strive to provide the best care possible and face the challenges posed by the changing landscape of Urgent and Emergency Care. Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will join a workforce of consultants, which are planned to expand in line with College of Emergency Medicine recommendations.

The post holder will participate fully in the provision of Emergency Medicine including clinical governance and the delivery of both Trust and Department of Health Clinical Quality Indicators. The posts will be based in the Emergency Department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

Demonstrate strong clinical leadership when working clinically across the many areas of the department delivering excellent and high-quality patient care and supporting the shift leader in the management of patient flow and activity through the department. The areas of the department comprise.

5 bedded Resuscitation, 12 bedded Majors,5 cubicle space Rapid Assessment and Treatment area, Minors area, purposed built Children's Emergency Department, and Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU).

Work collaboratively with other clinical colleagues to further reform the urgent and emergency care pathway.

Attend internal and external Stake Holder meetings as required.

Medical Education and Training

Participate in the professional supervision, management and teaching of the staff within the Emergency Department.

Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance

Participate in clinical audit across the department in line with Trust policy and guidelines Implement audit and research findings across the department.

Comply with the Trust clinical governance processes in a timely manner.

·    The department arranges monthly academic half days focussing on lessons learnt, new developments in the field of emergency medicine and longitudinal case audits. The event is streamed live for all the team members to be able to watch from home as well as to watch it at a later time.

Continuing Professional Development

Supporting Professional Activities are undertaken by all Consultants in a collaborative manner based on SDU needs. We strongly encourage people to develop sub specialist interest according to the needs of the department.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General training in Emergency Medicine to specialist level or equivalent
  • Specialist interests in one/some of: Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Emergency ultrasound, Observational Medicine
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level

  • Full GMC registration
  • CCST/CCT in Emergency Medicine OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Emergency Medicine; OR within three months of achieving CCST/CCT at the time of interview
  • ATLS Provider
  • ALS Provider
  • Instructor in life support course
  • APLS Provider

  • Sufficient leadership and organisational skills
  • Communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant.
  • Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and the Governments agenda for its modernisation

  • Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates (Courses in training and teaching)
