Job overview

An Oculoplastic Service Clinical Fellow post is available on a full time or part time basis at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. This post is for a Fixed Term Contract for 12 months, available to start 4th December 2025.

The Trust provides a busy and expanding Oculoplastics service to patients from Buckinghamshire, East Oxfordshire and West Hertfordshire.

The successful applicant will have logbook evidence of their surgery experience, and an audit of their surgical outcomes and complication rates. This post is suited to candidates who ideally have some experience in Oculoplastics and wish to further their clinical and surgical skills. However those without any previous Oculoplastics experience will be considered on their merit.

Candidates MUST hold a GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK

Main duties of the job

A fellow post in the sub-specialty of Oculoplastics is available at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS.This post is based at Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust (Stoke Mandeville, Wycombe General and Amersham Hospitals in Buckinghamshire). Our hospital is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and within easy reach of London and the Midlands.The successful applicant will have training in the clinical and surgical management of Oculoplastics with clinical work-up and decision making in the out-patient setting and Oculoplastic and cataract surgery.

The post-holder will also be expected to undertake occasional cataract lists and provide fellow support to the Acute Eye Casualty clinic when needed.Research and audit are actively encouraged.Supervision of junior trainees may be required depending on experience.

Person specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • MB,BS or equivalent
  • Must hold a valid GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice in the UK
Desirable criteria
  • MRCOphth or FRCOphth Part 1 or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in training grades in ophthalmology
  • Ability to take an ophthalmic history, perform an ophthalmic examination, request and interpret common ophthalmic investigations and formulate a clinical management plan without immediate supervision.
  • Experience as SpR or equivalent role in Ophthalmology
  • Experience of cataract surgery and Oculoplastic clinic and theatre attendance.
Desirable criteria
  • Minimum of 2 years direct paid NHS Registrar experience in Ophthalmology

Skills, Knowledge and Personal

Essential criteria
  • Good personal organisation and time management skills.
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Communication skills should be highly developed.
  • Competent computer literacy and keyboard skills including Microsoft packages
  • Experience of clinical audit
Desirable criteria
  • Practical experience of clinical administration (eg responsibility for duty rota)
  • Management training and experience
  • Communication skills training
  • Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates

Other Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Able to travel across Multiple Hospital sites
Desirable criteria
  • Full UK Driving Licence with access to own Transport
