Job overview

We are looking for a motivated Dietitian with experience of paediatrics to join the paediatric team within Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust which comprises of 5 other Paediatric Dietitians and strong administrative support.  This permanent post is at Band 6 for 2 days per week.

We are a very supportive team, have regular team meetings and CPD sessions/opportunities and have good links with surrounding Trusts and paediatric teams.

This is an excellent opportunity to consolidate paediatric skills, work with MDT colleagues in a variety of settings and develop clinical and leadership skills. The post holder will cover general out-patient clinics and have the opportunity to develop clinical skills in areas such as Home enteral feeding.

We are an integrated acute and community Dietetics Service, covering Buckinghamshire.  Our teams are friendly, supportive and place staff well being and professional development as a high priority.  We have B and C placement students with opportunities for our staff to lead or support students on placement, as well as great CPD and training opportunities for all our staff.

Just want to highlight another paediatric post we have at the same banding. There is an opportunity to combine these hours with a maternity cover post up to 5 days per week in total for 12 months’ – we would be happy to discuss this in more detail with applicants.

Main duties of the job

·       To perform specialised assessment, treatment and monitoring of paediatric patients with highly complex nutritional needs and act as a source of clinical expertise.

 ·       To undertake all aspects of clinical responsibilities as a highly skilled, autonomous and expert practitioner. 

 ·       To manage a caseload of paediatric patients (consultant and GP referred outpatients, and some home enterally fed patients)  

·       To demonstrate a high standard of knowledge and practical experience in general dietetics, and to provide specialist expertise in paediatrics.

 ·       To have responsibility for designated paediatric clinics and small HEF caseload.  There will also be opportunity to cover Specialist feeding clinics, provide input to specialist schools and provide patient group sessions

 ·       To be professionally, legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work including the management of a diverse patient caseload.

 ·       To undertake a comprehensive patient centred assessment (interpretation of biochemistry, anthropometrics, clinical condition and diet history) of allocated patients including those with complex presentations/multi-pathologies and use advanced clinical reasoning skills to set the nutritional goals for each patient.

 ·       To develop and make decisions regarding treatment plans for patients on caseload, and provide expert advice to patients, carers and clinicians.

2. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING

Essential criteria
  • BSc Dietetics or equivalent.
  • HPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of appropriate professional interest groups
  • British Dietetic Association member
  • Documentary evidence of CPD such as a paediatric module

4. SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of commonly used feeding systems
  • Awareness of regulatory bodies (HCPC) and professional bodies (BDA) code of practice and professional guidelines
Desirable criteria
  • experience of neonatal dietetic care
  • experience of paediatric TPN
  • advance communication skills
  • experience of working with children with eating disorders
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance and evidence based practice.
