Applications are invited for a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon to join the dynamic and forward-thinking Breast Surgery team at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and enhancing the Trust’s breast and oncoplastic surgery service, supporting both symptomatic and NHS Breast Screening Programme pathways. The role offers excellent opportunities for consultant development, including dual consultant operating for complex and bilateral procedures, participation in regional oncoplastic MDTs, and involvement in research, teaching and quality improvement initiatives.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a progressive and supportive Breast Unit within a modern University Teaching Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic colleague with experience in oncoplastic breast surgery to help continue the development and expansion of our breast and reconstructive service.
The successful candidate will join a well-established multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality symptomatic and NHS Breast Screening Programme services to the population of Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. The Breast Unit currently manages approximately 400 new breast cancers annually and has an excellent reputation for patient care, innovation and research participation.
The post offers 10 Programmed Activities with a 7.5 DCC : 2.5 SPA split for substantive appointments, alongside opportunities for additional SPA activity in areas such as education, research, leadership and quality improvement. There are no general surgical on-call commitments attached to this role.
The indicative job plan includes:
- All-day operating lists
- Two-week wait clinics
- Results clinics
- Oncoplastic clinics
- Weekly MDT meetings
- Regional oncoplastic MDT participation
The post holder will play a key role in ensuring delivery of a high-quality and accessible breast service, contributing to the diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of patients with both malignant and benign breast disease. The role includes responsibility for supporting achievement of national cancer targets, participating in multidisciplinary decision-making and contributing to ongoing service development.

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across surgery, radiology, oncology, pathology and nursing within a collaborative and forward-thinking environment
The Breast Unit includes:
- 4 Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons
- Consultant Breast Radiologists
- Dedicated Breast Care Nurses
- Diagnostic ACPs and ANPs
- Speciality trainees and junior medical staff
Clinics are delivered within a dedicated Breast Care Unit incorporating outpatient clinics, breast imaging and specialist nursing services. Facilities include digital mammography with tomosynthesis, ultrasound imaging and one-stop assessment clinics. Most breast surgery is undertaken as day-case or short-stay surgery. Simple and intermediate reconstructive procedures are performed locally, with complex free flap reconstruction undertaken in partnership with regional plastic surgery centres.
The successful candidate will also contribute to:
- Undergraduate and postgraduate medical education
- Clinical governance, audit and quality improvement
- Research and innovation activity
- Training and supervision of junior doctors and the wider multidisciplinary team
As a University Teaching Hospital working in partnership with the University of Buckingham Medical School, the Trust offers excellent opportunities for teaching, leadership development and research involvement.
Applicants must hold full GMC registration with a licence to practise, FRCS (or equivalent), and be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT at the time of interview. Experience and training in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery is essential.
