Band 6 £ 39,959 - £48,117 per annum pro rata if part-time

Fixed term until 30 June 2027

Hours: 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

We are looking to appoint a GDC registered Dental Technologist to provide technical support to the Trusts Clinicians, predominantly Orthodontics. Orthodontic Technology experience is essential, and is expected that the candidate will be able to manufacture the full range of simple and complex orthodontic appliances. 
You will be a valued member of the departmental team, and it is essential that you will have an eye for detail, a desire to learn and develop and to be self-motivated. The department is forward looking and currently developing and implementing going fully digital. There is vision to explore and develop the 3D point of care service within the wider Trust community, You will/can be instrumental in how this is shaped.
Experience working within an NHS Trust is desirable, but not essential.

The post holder is a vital part of the Orthodontic and Maxillofacial clinical technical team, responsible for manufacturing highly specialised complex work with a degree of individual responsibility, extending over a wide range of work activities that are complex and non-routine, supporting the Consultants and other clinical staff in the Head and Neck Directorate. 
 
They are expected to make a proactive contribution to the development of the expanding services provided by the Orthodontic and Maxillofacial Unit and expected to use initiative and original thought for the design and development of protype appliances/devices. 
 
They will also be expected to advise/instruct clinicians of all grades, nursing staff and students in the aspects of Dental Technology when required and have additional skills in Clinical Photography and Information Technology for treatment planning and clinical audit. 
 
The postholder must ensure technical and clinical practices and protocol pathways are adhered to and modified accordingly.

The surgery division at MKUH, which covers specialties including theatres and the Intensive Care Unit, offers a variety of roles and opportunities, both clinical and non-clinical. The division are looking for passionate, enthusiastic and forward-thinking professionals to join the team.

MKUH is one of the leading hospitals in Europe for implementing robotics to assist in surgery, becoming the first in the continent to use the CMR Versius robot for gynaecological surgery. Since its introduction in 2019, the theatres team have completed over 500 surgical cases, the first hospital in the UK to reach this milestone, achieving this in March 2023.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • First Degree in Dental Sciences (or equivalent)
  • Experience in Orthodontic Technology
  • Knowledge of Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency(M.H.R.A),Control of Substances Hazard to Health (C.O.S.H.H) Health and Safety legislation in addition to other policies governing profession
  • General Dental Council (GDC) State registered
Desirable criteria
  • Calibrated in Peer Assessment Review( PAR)
  • Photographic Certificate
  • Awareness of NHS and Trust systems, policies, procedures and current changes

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Dental and Orthodontic Production environment, commercial or hospital based
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
