We’re thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our expanding Education and Training Team. If you’re passionate about supporting others to learn, grow, and reach their full potential, this could be the perfect role for you!

In this role, you will help shape the future of our pharmacy workforce by contributing to a wide range of training and development initiatives. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, supportive, and committed to high-quality education.

Your roles:

  • Lead the training of pharmacy assistants and pre-registration pharmacy technicians
  • Develop and expand the apprenticeship model within the pharmacy workforce
  • Support the design and delivery of post-registration pharmacy technician training
  • Contribute to dispensary and ward-based pharmacy services to ensure high-quality patient care
  • Assist in all aspects of workforce development, helping shape a skilled, confident, and future-ready pharmacy team

·       To be responsible for the delivery of E&T for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Staff

·       To be responsible for delivery of the NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services and NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (in collaboration with relevant education providers)

·       To work with the Principal Pharmacy Technician – Education and Training to promote, deliver and evaluate a range of E&T opportunities for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants across all sections of Pharmacy

·       To facilitate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for Pharmacy Technicians.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Trust Responsibilities

·       To be part of the pharmacy team and work to enable the objectives of the trust to be achieved.

·       To communicate effectively and promptly with all members of the pharmacy team

·       To participate in high standards of practice as defined in professional and regulatory documents

·       To contribute to Trust compliance with the Medicines Management standards, Clinical Governance and Risk Management.

 

Professional Responsibilities

·         To act as a role model and mentor for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants

·         To promote high standards of work in line with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Standards for Pharmacy Professionals

·         To lead on the development, implementation and evaluation of E&T for Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants

·         To assist the Associate Director of Pharmacy (Clinical Services and ET&WD) in the development and delivery of E&T that reflects the needs of the department and the trust.

 

Operational

·       To receive, label and dispense prescriptions for inpatients and outpatients and demonstrate ongoing competence in the role

·       To participate in the final checking of medication for inpatients and outpatients and demonstrate ongoing competence in the role

·       To participate in the ward based medicines optimisation service and demonstrate ongoing competence in the role

·       To support the safe, effective and economic use of medicines through participation in the ward based medicines optimisation service.

 

Education and Training

·       To be responsible for the day to day delivery and oversight of NVQ Levels 2 & 3 in Pharmacy Services for Pharmacy Assistants and Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians.

·       To assist the Principal Pharmacy Technician – Education & Training to ensure that the appropriate arrangements are in place for the personal development of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants

·       To provide information to the Principal Pharmacy Technician – Education & Training on all aspects of E&T for Pharmacy Technicians and Support Staff.

 

Quality

·       To ensure that all departmental policies and procedures that apply to the training of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy Support Staff are regularly updated and developed

·       To support the development of standard operating procedures and key performance indicators which support the setting and monitoring of standards for the provision of pharmacy education and training activities.

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • BTEC / NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
  • Professional registration as Registered Pharmacy Technician with GPhC
  • Accredited Checking Technician
  • Medicines Management Technician
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in line with GPhC Registration Requirements
  • Educational Supervisor / Train the Trainer qualification (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised Management qualification
  • Recognised IT qualification

Experience

  • Min of 5 years Post Qualification with Hospital Pharmacy Experience
