Department: Inpatient Therapies

 

Band 6 £38,682 - £46,580 per annum

 

Full-time 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

 

Our Therapy Department is currently looking for a dynamic enthusiastic physiotherapists to join or cohort of rotational band 6's on a permanent basis. The rotations are 8 months in length and cover the following areas: 

  • Respiratory - Respiratory medicine including NIV, General Surgery including ERP programme & ICU.
  • MSK  Outpatients including hydrotherapy
  • Inpatient Orthopaedics - Trauma and Elective 
  • Acute Stroke Unit 
  • Acute assessment & Frailty team 
  • MSK outreach and domiciliary service

Working as part of a dedicated & skilled Therapy Services team, you will be providing a holistic therapy approach to patients in both an inpatient & outpatient setting. There is a strong expectation to collaborate with all members of the MDT to ensure the complex needs of patients are always at the centre of your care.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
  • To hold responsibility for own case-load and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision.  Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences.  Access to advice and support from a Senior Physiotherapist is available if required, clinical work is not regularly evaluated.  
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice.  Make recommendations to Therapy Lead or Therapy Service Lead for changes to practice by the team.  May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have a dedicated Therapy practice education team whose role is to support staff and student development.  Previous experience as a Band 6 or 5 Physiotherapist is essential. An ability to demonstrate a proactive approach and to be able to work well on own initiative is essential. Demonstratable skills in service development are desirable, along with a keen interest in educating fellow healthcare colleagues.

The post holder will participate in the respiratory on-call rota (including weekends and bank holidays as required). The post holder will also work within a 7-day service whilst on rotation with the Acute Assessment & Frailty team, and cover weekend shifts whilst on rotation on the Acute Stoke Unit. 

A programme of leadership development sessions is available as well as the opportunity to be involved in the education of the MDT, appraisal mentor and service development projects.

MSK outpatients runs extended hours during the week.  Car driver is essential for MSK outreach and on-call services. It is essential you have current HCPC registration as a Physiotherapist.

Clinical: 

  • To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of your own work including the management of patients in your care.

Professional: 

 

  • To maintain own continuing professional development (CPD) by keeping abreast of any new trends and developments, and incorporate them as necessary into your work.

Organisational: 

 

  • To be responsible for the supervision and coordination of band 5 staff, students and assistants on a daily basis, in conjunction with the Lead Therapist for each clinical area as required.

Experience

  • Relevant experience in hospital setting at band 5 or 6 level.
