Senior Sister/Senior Charge Nurse - EAU5 - Medical Short Stay Unit

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge nurse to join our Medical short stay unit on EAU 5. 

The unit consists of 26 beds, with 2 Rapid Handover beds to support ambulance offloads, and 9 beds are cardiac monitored

EAU5 take a variety of patients with acute medical conditions who are expected to have a length of stay of less than 72 hours.  They are also one of the admission points for patients experiencing a mental health crisis

You must be a motivated individual with proven leadership experience at either Band 6 or 7 to inspire staff and ensure the provision of safe, personal and effective care, whilst maintaining flow through the unit.

You will be expected to promote change and continue the development of the unit and staff.  

There is close MDT working and a focus on early discharges to support with flow from the ED and MAU

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to maintain high standards of care, meeting national and local standards with regards to quality, safety and length of stay within the unit. 

You will be expected to promote innovative thinking and provide inspirational leadership and managerial support to all members of the multidisciplinary team, supporting changes and new initiatives to improve quality, flow and patient experience. 

You would be responsible for the day to day running of the ward, and have responsibility for 50 nurses and healthcare support workers. This will include maintaining safe staffing through effective roster management; managing the budget; managing sickness and absence, and other HR issues; and coaching and developing staff and students.

  • Current and relevant registration on NMC Register
