Job overview
We are seeking to appoint senior audiologists to join our busy and friendly team. We have 1 permanent post available for 37.5 hours per week, 1 permanent post for 22.5 hours per week and a fixed-term post for 2 years at 37.5 hours per week. These posts may include occasional, additional Saturday working to cover ENT clinics.
You will be a well-motivated, enthusiastic, qualified audiologist. We are an innovative department, providing a comprehensive audiology service. You will join a highly motivated team, committed to providing a high quality service.

Main duties of the job
There are opportunities for training and development within this post, but please note that this is not a training post and we are seeking an individual with experience managing a complex caseload. There may be opportunities for the right candidate to accept this position under a pay-progression agreement; we may be able to offer a Band 5 pay scale to start, with progression to Band 6 over time dependant on development of expected skills and experience.
Main duties will be in the rehabilitation of adults with hearing difficulties, on both complex and routine pathways. You must have excellent communication skills and have a desire to find creative and effective solutions for patients with a variety of hearing problems. You will be a competent practitioner and able to work without supervision in the main department, on domiciliary visits and at satellite clinics. You will be expected to develop specialist expertise in some of our complex clinics with appropriate support and guidance given. There may be opportunities for some paediatric work, depending on experience. We are a training department and you would be expected to contribute to training junior staff and PTP and STP trainees.
You will have at least a BSc in Audiology or equivalent and will already have gained experience in a clinical setting, testing and rehabilitating complex patients. RCCP registration or equivalent is essential.

- BSc or MSc in Audiology or equivalent
- BAAT I and II or equivalent
- If not yet eligible for registration, must be working towards this

- Previous experience in clinical audiology underpinned by specialist theoretical knowledge as outlined above.

Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to work independently following departmental and national procedures without direct supervision maintaining accountability for own professional actions.
- Provide range of clinical audiology services without direct supervision
- Hearing assessment in adults and children (age 4 and above)
- Use of diagnostic tests (eg for the assessment of middle ear function)
- Use of specialist tests of hearing function
- Hearing rehabilitation in adults including more complex cases
- Repair clinics requiring broad knowledge of a large range of hearing aids
- Understands anatomy and physiology of hearing and able to identify patients requiring further specialist intervention.
- Able to determine appropriate rehabilitative interventions from a range of options
- Understands the workings of a broad range of hearing aids and their processing strategies.
- Understanding of hazards posed by and precautions needed with: -Infected clinical waste -Sharp tools used in earmould repairs -Electrical hazards
- Understands hazards and necessary precautions associated with remote working and a domiciliary service.

- Needs an appreciation of budgetary constraints in selection of hearing aids and take responsibility for hearing aid stocks
