Staff Bank Services successfully provides temporary staffing throughout Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust via a variety of different assignments.

We are looking to register reliable, hardworking individuals who would thrive in a busy environment who are available to work full time on a rotating shift pattern of 4 days on, 4 days off, 4 nights on, 4 nights off over a 12 hour period. You will be working within the Environmental Services team, ensuring waste is collected in a timely and efficient manner from all areas of the hospital.

Main duties of the job

Environmental Services Porter will assist the Team Leader for the Process and Resource Manager and his/her staff in providing an efficient waste collection service for all wastes generated from the Trust.

Waste Collectors will assist the team Leader to deliver the Collection Schedules; including dirty and infected laundry, cardboard/sharps, biohazard/hazardous clinical wastes and recyclables in accordance with the following list of duties.

Essential criteria
  • Good numeracy and literacy

  • Computer skills
  • Hold full driving license

Experience

Essential criteria
  • General work experience dealing with the general public, in a demand led environment
  • Must have experience of working in an industrial environment
  • Experience of general cleaning duties
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Shift work
  • Waste Management experience and handling/segregation knowledge

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Manual handling techniques.
  • Be helpful and understanding of customer needs
  • Understanding of H & S in the workplace
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of site and departments.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate effectively using radio
  • Good front of house skills and customer service skills
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Must be flexible with shift patterns

  • Basic Computer skills
  • Welding experience

Additional Requirements

Essential criteria
  • The ability to understand and behave at all times, towards patients, visitors and colleagues according to the Trust values of Safe, Kind, Excellent.
  • Able to carry out full range of duties including physical aspects of lifting and pulling
  • Able to pass tug drivers course within one month of commencement. Must be 18 to pass tug license
  • Must be able to send and receive clear instructions on radio system
