Building Supervisor

Job overview

The role of the Buildings Supervisor is to effectively supervise all staff and contractors under their control. 

You will manage the In-house staff and Contractors effectively and professionally with additional responsibility to cover other Supervisors’ areas in their absence, for example Carpentry. 

You will oversee the internal and external Maintenance of Building Fabric and Infrastructure, such as Road and Pathways, Roofs, Flooring and Decorating.

Work is not limited to and may include compliance of Passive Fire Systems and working alongside colleagues to deliver patient needs.

Main duties of the job

Being a member of the Estates Operations Team, you will have both a group and individual responsibility for defined aspects of the service and will ensure that your contribution is both positive and beneficial in helping the Estates Operations Team and the Estates and Facilities Directorate to fulfil the Trust’s overall objectives.

You will ensure that a quality service is delivered that meets the expectations of Trust staff, patients and the public.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised trade apprenticeship e.g., Buildings and Carpentry, or equivalent
  • Minimum NVQ level 3 and an appropriate level of experience consummate with the role
Desirable criteria
  • Technical qualifications related to role within healthcare or equivalent
  • A detailed understanding of hospital Infrastructure and building systems
  • Clerk of Works
  • Fire door inspection and Maintenance Qualifications

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in an Operational Maintenance environment, e.g. commercial or public sector premises Estates team
  • Experience of successfully managing directly employed staff and contractors of varying trades and disciplines or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of negotiation and conflict resolution within the Estates and Facilities environment

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of building systems that impact on the Healthcare estate provision
  • Considering safe operation and maintenance of healthcare premises
  • Knowledge of applicable guidance for example HTM, HBN, HTN and other applicable guidance or best practice
Desirable criteria
  • A detailed understanding of CUH E&F vision
  • Demonstrate an understanding of acute hospitals and the skills / competency to operate and maintain these systems
  • Detailed knowledge of the hospital systems for example: Asbestos Management; Fire Systems; CAFM systems; Specialist and Security systems; Fire Compartmentation and Fire doors, etc.
  • Detailed understanding of resilient systems within healthcare premises and emergency planning for the estate
  • Detailed knowledge of healthcare building systems; Grounds and Gardens Maintenance; Pest Control and both common and specialist Drainage Systems
  • Working knowledge of a CMMS systems and its application to maintenance

Skills

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to assess situations and prioritise conflicting needs of the service
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office
