Epic certification in a relevant module is required for this role. However, full training and support will be provided if you are not yet accredited.

The Pharmacy Department at CUH is forward-thinking and ambitious, always placing the patient at the heart of everything we do. We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and skilled individual to join our Pharmacy eHospital & Informatics Team as a Clinical Lead Pharmacist – eHospital & Informatics.

Our team includes both clinical and non-clinical professionals who are passionate about using digital technology to improve patient care. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated clinical pharmacist to contribute to the strategic development and optimisation of Epic with respect to medicines use across the Trust.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

As Clinical Lead Pharmacist – eHospital & Informatics, you will play a pivotal role in leading the clinical pharmacy aspects of Epic upgrades and optimisation projects. You will:

  • Support the ongoing development and clinical use of Epic across pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Work collaboratively across digital application streams to ensure the safe and effective use of medicines within the system.

  • Contribute to system configuration, medication build, clinical decision support, and safety-related enhancements.

  • Help drive software-enabled medicines optimisation, patient safety improvements, and wider digital benefits realisation.

  • Liaise with both pharmacy colleagues and Trust-wide stakeholders, engaging in cross-functional projects that support digital transformation in healthcare delivery.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

A hallmark of CUH’s commitment to innovation is our investment in the eHospital programme, making us the first Trust in the UK to implement the world-leading Epic electronic patient record (EPR) system and the first to achieve HIMSS EMRAM Stage 7 global digital maturity standards. This system provides pharmacists and clinicians with real-time access to patient and medication data, supporting streamlined prescribing, monitoring, and medicines reconciliation. These capabilities enable safer, more effective medicines use and free up valuable time to focus on direct patient care.

In addition to providing healthcare services to the local community, we are also recognised for our specialist services that support patients with rare and complex conditions from across the region, nationally, and internationally.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Masters level degree in pharmacy.
  • Registered as a pharmacist with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy/General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent)*.
  • Epic Systems Assessment and Aptitude Test
Desirable criteria
  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)*.
  • Management qualification.
  • Registered as an independent prescriber with the GPhC or a commitment to completing this qualification.
  • Member of Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Qualification in an IT discipline.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent significant post-registration experience including prescription screening, medicines reconciliation and medicines information in an electronic health record.
  • Design and delivery of workflows / process in a clinical environment.
  • Experienced clinical pharmacist at band 7 or band 8a who has covered a range of specialities and with recent and/or relevant experience in a specialism.
  • Experience of documenting pharmaceutical care issues in and electronic health record.
  • Experience of writing professional reports.
  • Experience of deliver of benefits from the implementation of technology / services as they may relate to clinical workflows.
  • Experience of working with senior clinical staff, medical consultant and other senior managers.
  • Evidence of having conducted and implemented the outcomes of a clinical audit.
  • Experience of the practical application of antimicrobial stewardship initiatives.
  • Experience of the management of high-cost and high-risk medicines.
  • Experience of delivering complex technical projects to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of developing and leading on projects including change management and service development.
Desirable criteria
  • Experienced clinical pharmacist (at band 8a or 8b) in a relevant discipline with experience in digital transformation in clinical areas.
