Job overview
We are seeking to appoint 3 senior audiologists to join our busy and friendly team. We have 1 permanent post available, and 2 fixed term posts for 7 months for 37.5 hours per week, which may include occasional, additional Saturday working to cover ENT clinics.
You will be a well-motivated, enthusiastic qualified audiologist. We are an innovative department, providing a comprehensive audiology service. You will join a highly motivated team, committed to providing a high quality service.
Main duties of the job
Main duties will be in the rehabilitation of adults with hearing difficulties, on both complex and routine pathways. You must have excellent communication skills and have a desire to find creative and effective solutions for patients with a variety of hearing problems. You will be a competent practitioner and able to work without supervision in the main department, on domiciliary visits and at satellite clinics. You will be expected to develop specialist expertise in some of our complex clinics although training will be given. There may be opportunities for some paediatric work, depending on experience. We are a training department and you would be expected to contribute to training junior staff and PTP and STP trainees.
You will have at least a BSc in Audiology or equivalent and will already have gained experience in a clinical setting. RCCP registration or equivalent is essential.

Essential criteria
- BSc or MSc in Audiology or equivalent
- BAAT I and II or equivalent
- If not yet eligible for registration, must be working towards this
Desirable criteria
- HCP / RCCP registered
Experience
Essential criteria
- Previous experience in clinical audiology underpinned by specialist theoretical knowledge as outlined above
Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in paediatric audiology
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Able to work independently following departmental and national procedures without direct supervision maintaining accountability for own professional actions
- Provide range of clinical audiology services without direct supervision
- Hearing assessment in adults and children (age 4 and above)
- Use of diagnostic tests (eg for the assessment of middle ear function)
- Use of specialist tests of hearing function
- Hearing rehabilitation in adults including more complex cases
- Repair clinics requiring broad knowledge of a large range of hearing aids
- Understands anatomy and physiology of hearing and able to identify patients requiring further specialist intervention
- Able to determine appropriate rehabilitative interventions from a range of options
- Understands the workings of a broad range of hearing aids and their processing strategies
Desirable criteria
- Needs an appreciation of budgetary constraints in selection of hearing aids and take responsibility for hearing aid stocks
- Understands the importance of research and development and is able to contribute to research and audit within the department
- Experience in paediatric audiology
- Experience in complex adult audiology
Skills
Essential criteria
- To be able to communicate effectively: With all patients, particularly those with significant hearing difficulties
- To explain complex information about hearing loss and management options With other professionals and staff within Clinic 10 (ENT) and Audiology With other organisations (volunteers, social services, GPs etc) With junior staff in a supervisory and training role
- Able to deliver short talks to other members of the team in informal training meetings
- Able to use judgement in planning most appropriate rehabilitation strategy for adults with hearing loss including more complex cases and for children
- Able to plan and prioritise own administrative workload
- Able to exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of competence
- Confident in working alone in satellite clinics and on domiciliary visits and taking responsibility for smooth running, organisation and future planning of these clinics
- Able to supervise day-to-day work of trainee audiologists

- Good basic keyboard skills and able to input clinical data and up-date computer-held patient records for every patient attendance
- Good fine motor skills for aural impression taking, ear mould modification and real ear measurement tests
