Main duties of the job

Key elements of the role:

Contributing to the production of financial reports in accordance with Trust procedures and timetables.

Budget statement reconciliation and analysis.

Investigating variances and making any necessary adjustments.

Identifying data processing errors and making corrective changes.

Manipulating income and expenditure data for forecasting and budget setting exercises.

Validation of new spend and involvement in business cases.

Active engagement with budget holders and other Trust colleagues is paramount to being successful in this position.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or other Level 6 qualifications, or have equivalent professional experience
Desirable criteria
  • To have attained or be working towards a CCAB qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in the accounting department of a public sector body, in a specialist financial management role
  • Prioritisation, planning and organising own and others' tasks
  • Demonstrate advanced analytical skills with the ability to communicate clearly the results of such analysis
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an NHS accounting department, in a specialist financial management role
  • Previous experience working in the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Confidentiality and data protection processes and procedures
  • Good working knowledge of office protocols and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Office packages, particularly Microsoft Excel
  • Awareness of NHS targets and Trust priorities
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
