Job overview

Applications are invited for the post of Clinical Fellow Higher (ST4-5 / ST6+) in Gastroenterology (Endoscopy) to commence from 03 September 2025 until 01 September 2026.

Main duties of the job

This post provides an opportunity to develop Gastroenterology practice in a state of the art Endoscopy facility at one of the world’s leading teaching hospitals.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop their practice in Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy with associated lists, training lists and research opportunities. The focus of this posts is training in Therapeutic Endoscopy. Depending on the candidate’s interest and availability of training capacity in the Department, we will be able to provide training centered in EUS, ERCP or in Advanced Therapeutic endoscopy including: Colonoscopy EMR, Dilatation, Botox and Stenting, Balloon Enteroscopy and Video Capsule Endoscopy. 
They will also have an opportunity to develop their skills in the outpatient clinical setting with general and subspecialty Gastroenterology clinics.  There will be a component of gastroenterology inpatient management in this post.

In order to be considered applicants must meet the following essential criteria:
•    Full MRCP or equivalent
•    Independent for UGI Endoscopy and Colonoscopy

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of commencement is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The duties of this post include a service commitment to six sessions per week in either Endoscopy or Outpatient clinics. These sessions are worked at flexible times planned one month in advance to cover leave and Consultant ward commitments. Applicants should ideally be at or near the end of their specialist training and independent in Gastroscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy. 

The remaining four “unfilled” sessions the post-holder will be free to pursue training lists on Advanced Endoscopy or pursue Research opportunities available in the Gastroenterology Department. 

The post-holder will also undertake Endoscopy cover one Saturday per month, and take part in the on-call rota approximately 2-3 times a month (but only Monday to Thursday).
