Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology (BGCS Unit Lead Equivalent)

NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant

Job overview

Applications are invited for two substantive Consultant Gynaecologists with interest in Gynaecological Oncology (BGCS Unit Lead equivalent, supporting the CUH Cancer Centre team), at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CUH). These posts are to commence as soon as possible.

CUH is a recognised Cancer Centre for Gynaecological Oncology within the East of England Cancer Alliance and is responsible for providing both local and subspecialist services. Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust includes Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie Hospitals. We are one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the country with an outstanding reputation that is down to the exceptional people that work here.

Our philosophy is to keep the patient at the heart of everything we do. Every person that works for the Trust, regardless of their role, meets our patients and visitors and is expected to uphold our values of Together - Safe, Kind, Excellent at all times.

We look for people who are willing to go the extra mile, not because they are asked to, but because they are committed to being part of a healthcare team that delivers an excellent caring service to our patients.

Main duties of the job

The two successful candidates will work as a Consultant team to provide Cancer Unit level diagnostic and treatment services to our local population, working collaboratively with the subspecialty Gynae-oncology team. Benign Gynaecology is hosted within a different directorate within CUH and the successful candidates will be responsible for liaising between the two departments.

The main objectives of the roles are to deliver local referral and diagnostic services including triage, Advice and Guidance, and outpatient clinics (hysteroscopy, colposcopy, USCP). There will be an opportunity to deliver specialist clinics together with regular theatre sessions. The successful candidates will be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of NHS Cancer Pathway Targets and lead the weekly unit MDT, as well as attending the specialist MDT sessions.

The successful candidate will be required to participate in the gynaecology on-call rota, which also involves supporting obstetric emergencies where gynaecological surgical input is required.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview having completed RCOG ATSM or equivalent in Gynaecological Oncology. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Working for our organisation

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an Equal Opportunities Employer.
