Locum Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly

Locum Consultant

Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly.

Post 1: To commence Asap until 04 December 2024.

Post 2: To commence Asap until 31 March 2025.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our clinical team and participate in the development of clinical services for older adults in Cambridgeshire, with particular focus on our flagship ‘Frailty Front Door’ model.

This is an exciting time for the Department of Medicine for the Elderly. We are in the process of expanding our department, and are particularly interested in developing innovative processes of care for our patient population. We currently provide specialist care as part of the Frailty Front Door Team, on a Frailty and Acute Medicine for the Elderly unit, four ‘Core’ Medicine for the Elderly wards. We have an established rapid access service for GPs (RADAR) and a trust-wide specialist geriatric liaison team. We are also establishing links with our rapidly expanding virtual ward service.

Main duties of the job

The post will offer opportunities for working across a range of clinical settings, but there will be particular focus on the rapid assessment of frail older patients across our acute hub areas.  Successful candidates will be able to participate in the general medicine (GIM) on-call rota if desired.

We are very keen to develop our existing interest in education and training of juniors, and would also welcome and support applicants with an interest in utilising the research opportunities available to those working within a biomedical research campus.

The post is open to applicants with Geriatrics speciality training, and also to those will accreditation in General Internal Medicine who can demonstrate experience in caring for frail older patients.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and ideally have a CCT or be within six months of award of CCT at the time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

Working for our organisation

The applicants must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Applications from job seekers who require skilled worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further information please visit the UK Visas and Immigration website.

It is a requirement for skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, to present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement.
