Job overview

This role provides a proficient, effective and fully comprehensive portering service for a busy Day of Surgery Unit. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who is well-motivated and hardworking and able to work as part of our team. 

You will be responsible for maintaining a broad professional and responsive high quality porter service to patients, staff, visitors and all service users. 

Main duties of the job

To work as part of our busy and thriving team providing high standards of service in all parts of the hospital following all appropriate policies and procedures.

This will include:

• Movement of patients using wheelchairs, beds and trolleys.
• The collection and delivery of patients to Outpatient areas and scanning. 
• Movement of beds to appropriate theatres in a timely fashion in order for theatre lists to run smoothly. 
• Bloods, samples and specimen collection / deliveries.
• Collection of medications and stock from some departments. 
• Communicate with colleagues using telephone, radio and bleep system providing a professional and friendly service at all times.
• Transfer and delivery of patient property to appropriate Wards when required. 
• Respond to ad hoc requests and emergency situations, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
• Check and report any faults or potential hazards where necessary.

Other duties may be required by the Manager / Supervisors to ensure the smooth running of the department and Hospital.

All work must be undertaken in line with Health and Safety, Infection Prevention, Security and all Trust Policy and Procedures.
You may work in an environment where there could be exposure to sensitive circumstances.

Physical Effort

You will need to have a moderate amount of fitness as this role can be physically demanding. Skillful transporting of beds, trolleys and wheelchairs is required.
