Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of research nurses in our Emergency Department (ED). The role is fully funded by the RDN and is part of a highly successful research community within the department covering a broad range of specialties.
You must have an extensive ED clinical background plus a minimum of two years of research experience at Band 6 in both commercial and non-commercial interventional portfolio studies and be confident in their set up, effective delivery and performance management. You will lead a team of highly motivated research nurses, a coordinator and admin support and there will shortly be a dedicated area for research within the department. There will be opportunities for professional development in mentoring, budget management, teaching, presenting and other personal objectives you may have.
This team has been highly successful in establishing a culture of research within the department and is supported by the RDN Specialty Group Lead who is based in the ED. They perform to a high level when meeting NIHR targets for commercial and non commercial research and lead on research events for the region to promote engagement.
PLEASE NOTE: Interviews will be face to face and you will be asked to give a 10 minute presentation.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse educated to Degree level or willingness to undertake
- Evidence of recent continuous professional development.
- Current NIHR GCP and Valid Informed Consent certificates
Desirable criteria
- Masters Degree
- Teaching qualification
- CPD Research Modules / further training eg NIHR
- CREATE course
- Post registration qualification in specialist area
Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant relevant experience in the ED and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills.
- Experience of leading nursing teams
- Previous experience of nursing within a research environment.
- Accountability for own practice.
- Experience of commercial NIHR portfolio set up and delivery
Desirable criteria
- Experience of formal/informal teaching.
- Experience of presenting on a research topic
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of clinical research infrastructure in the UK and DHSC initiatives, relevant Research Governance legislation & regulations.
- Understanding of evidence-based practice.
- Understanding of Clinical Governance.
- Understanding of the requirements of Good Clinical Practice & possession of GCP Certificate
- Knowledge of the role of the clinical research nurse and principles of informed consent for participation in research including adults lacking capacity regulations.
- Knowledge of health research methodology
