Applications are invited for Clinical Fellow Core rotational posts in surgery (ST1-2 level) working across a variety of surgical specialities. These posts offer 3 x 4 month rotations per 12 months.

These posts are available from 05 August 2026 until 03 August 2027.  These positions would be ideal for Resident Doctors looking for a multi-speciality core surgical training equivalent posts.

Main duties of the job

These posts will provide significant exposure to surgical specialities including Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Urology, Trauma & Orthopaedics and the Major Trauma Service.

The successful candidate’s day-to-day work will be caring for surgical patients, including multiply injured major trauma inpatients on the major trauma ward. 

Up to two of the successful applicants can be part funded to complete a Master in Surgery (MChir) degree at the University of Cambridge. The Major Trauma Service will fund 50% of the course fees, the successful fellow will pay the remaining 50% of the fees (cost - £4,694 (subject to change) per year, the fellow expected to pay 50%). The MChir degree is a 2 year part time degree, the candidates will be offered a 2 year placement if they undertake the degree. Please note: In order to be offered a second year, candidates need to have applied for and begin undertaking the masters within year 1.

At the end of the post it is expected that candidates would be in a good position to apply for ST3 positions.

In order to be considered, applicants must meet the essential criteria in the person specification which includes having MBBS or equivalent medical qualification and full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Please note that these posts do not carry Postgraduate Dean’s approval or training recognition.

These posts may be suitable for those wishing to undertake an “F3” role.

Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
