Post FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeons are invited to apply for an Orthopaedic Trauma Fellowship to work in the Cambridge Orthopaedic Trauma Unit. 

This post is to commence as soon as possible until 04 August 2025.

Main duties of the job

During this post, the Fellow will have opportunities to participate in service development projects, quality improvement projects and are expected to take a leading role in clinical audit. 

The fellowship will also have an academic part with multiple research projects running in the department.

This post is not recognised for training by the JCST.

Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application is required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a post CCT fellowship at Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for one year of training under direct supervision of Mr. Matija Krkovic, who is a world renowned expert in Lower Limb Reconstruction. Training will include limb reconstruction, complex lower limb orthopaedic trauma and adult reconstruction surgery.

The focus of the training will be on complex circular frame treatment including Illizarov and Tylor Spatial Frames, management of complex periarticular fractures, management of non-union cases using poller screws technique (which is a technique perfected in our unite to the 4th generation poller screws), corrective osteotomies, limb lengthening and management of large bone defects using magnetic nails and bone transport techniques, treatment of cases with Osteomylitis and bone periprosthatic infection (which involved regular weekly attendance to multidisciplinary meetings with Microbiologists and Plastic Surgeons through The Cambridge Bone Infection Group), management of complex open fractures and limb salvage procedures at Major Trauma Centre level.

In addition the successful candidate will be part of regular trauma cases and occasional elective TKR cases. There will be occasional unsupervised operating lists and clinics.
