Applications are invited for the post of a Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics with subspecialty interest in Lower Limb Trauma and Foot and Ankle Surgery (10PA). This is a substantive post to commence from 01 April 2026.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is part of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough ICB. It is a specialist centre for many services including trauma and orthopaedics, bone infection, major trauma, transplant surgery, molecular genetics, mitochondrial diseases to name but a few.

Trauma & Orthopaedics at CUH has expanded; as well as being one of the country's largest Major Trauma Centres with daily complex, high energy and frailty trauma being looked after by renowned surgical teams; it is also expanding its elective orthopaedic capacity. The new Cambridge Movement Surgical Hub is the physical embodiment of the growing role within the region.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant would join a large team in one of the busiest Major Trauma Centres in the UK and would be expected to have the skills for treating patients with multiple injuries, open fractures and complex lower limb trauma alongside a multi-specialty trauma team. In addition, the applicant should have a particular interest in managing foot and ankle trauma, with experience at post-CCT Fellowship (or equivalent) level. There is a preference for a skill set that involves development of a foot and ankle service.

You will be fully registered with the GMC and have a CCT and appropriate higher subspecialist training or equivalent in Trauma and Orthopaedics or be within six month of award of CCT at time of interview. Applications are welcomed from those unable to work full time for personal reasons or those wishing to job-share.

The applicant would take part in the on-call rota and would have a mixed role in trauma and elective orthopaedic surgery. CUH provides a highly supportive environment for research and there are opportunities for training of resident trainees, specialist nurses and AHP’s.

The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). Non-UK applicants must possess the IELTS/OET exam before obtaining a GMC licence to practice.
